West Ridge Couple Named McDonald’s Top Fan in Chicagoland After Vowing to Eat McDonald's Together

When Arelys Alcozar and her husband committed to love each other forever at their 2017 wedding, they also made an unusual promise – to always eat McDonald’s together before every trip for the rest of their lives. Now, three years after their wedding, they have something else to celebrate – becoming the first-ever “McDonald’s top fans in all of Chicagoland.”


In September 2021, the McDonald’s Operators of Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana (MOCNI) launched the first-of-its kind local video contest, the MyMcDonald’s Rewards Chicagoland Contest, in search of Chicagoland’s number one, most loyal McDonald’s fan.

In the West Ridge couple’s winning entry, they featured a clip of their wedding ceremony where Arelys promises to “always eat McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches together before every trip” as part of her vows before jumping forward three years – to the day – where they were enjoying McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches together with their almost two-year-old daughter, Mariana.


“Throughout the contest we saw so many incredible, creative videos highlighting why our fans felt such a strong connection to the McDonald’s brand,” says Chicago-area Owner/Operator Sam Lubeznik. “But there was something about promising to eat McDonald’s in your wedding vows and having the brand be a part of their life as a couple that inspired us to crown Arelys. That’s true commitment.”


As the top winner, the couple will receive $5,000 worth of McDonald’s, a one-of-a-kind Big Mac trophy and an old school, McDonaldland style celebration for 10 at McDonald’s Corporate Headquarters in Chicago’s West Loop, complete with a limo ride, appearances from classic McDonaldland characters plus an opportunity to meet with McDonald’s chefs.


"McDonald’s has been bringing us joy and delicious food since we were kids,” said contest winner, Arelys Alcozar. “When we were long distance dating, it was part of our travel joy and helped with the sadness when we were flying away from each other. In our next chapter of life, McDonald’s continued to be a part of our biggest life moments - we made a big deal out of our daughter turning 16 months and getting her first Happy Meal.”

Four runners up were also announced, each of whom will receive $500 worth of free McDonald’s and a personalized swag bag. Arelys’ winning submission and the four runners up can be found linked below:

McDonald’s customers and loyal brand fans entered the contest by sharing fun, creative 30-second videos sharing why they are the biggest and most loyal McDonald’s lover in all of Chicagoland. From sharing their love of the infamous Chicken McNuggets and World Famous Fries to highlighting how McDonald’s made an impact throughout monumental life moments, Chicagoans entered the contest showcasing their McDonald’s love throughout the month of September.


The contest was in support of the new MyMcDonald’s Rewards loyalty program, which launched earlier this year. McDonald’s first nationwide loyalty program allowing customers to unlock freebies simply by enjoying their favorite menu items. MyMcDonald’s Rewards is available via the McDonald’s App, and fans can earn 100 points for every one dollar spent on qualifying purchases.
